A Spiritual Journey through Childhood Abuse to the Glory of God’s Plan
The Survival Story of a Child of a Bipolar Parent
Dallas Teague

Overview
According to the World Heath Organization, Bipolar Disorder is the sixth leading cause of disability in the world. Bipolar Disorder affects approximately 5.7 million adult Americans every year. How do these staggering numbers affect the loved ones and caregivers of those trying to find their way? Finding Dallas is about discovering a pathway to finding your inner strength to break the patterns of unhealthy behaviors such as codependence, people pleasing and perfectionism.
“The hardest thing I have ever had to do was tell my mother to leave, knowing she had nowhere else to go. The verbal, emotional and physical abuse left me no other choice. Little did I know I would find her sleeping in the park like many of today’s nameless homeless.”
Dallas Teague is the older child of divorced parents who spent her childhood with a mother who suffered decades from this mental illness. As a teenager, Dallas embarked upon a journey to get her mom the help she so desperately needed but refused to receive. Due to state mental health laws created to protect those unjustly committed, Dallas found herself trapped in a helpless situation, living the harsh reality that her mother’s health would have to become much worse before it could get any better. If Dallas could not prove that her mom was a danger to herself or others, there was no recourse to force her to get help.
Even with much prayer and countless attempts to find an answer, the illness progressed. Dallas’s mother was finally committed at age 40 following a psychotic episode during which she imagined someone was trying to hurt her. She became violent, the police got involved and a new journey began.
From age six, Dallas experienced first hand the personal challenges and struggles that accompany this birthright. Dallas offers simple solutions to those family members in similar situations who continue to suffer from feelings of guilt and hopelessness.
